Story:

Deep beneath Skyrim’s frozen surface lies a fungal underworld where ambition and madness have taken root. The mod begins when your character, at level 30, discovers a mysterious journal in the quarters of a court mage. This journal draws you into a sprawling subterranean realm—a place of ancient palaces, haunted cities of scholars, and the research hall of a deranged warlock. At the heart of this darkness lurks Malkifer, a lich who once believed they could ascend to godhood. Their obsession has unleashed a creeping corruption tied to Namira, the Daedric Prince of decay. As you descend, you’ll uncover the remnants of Malkifer’s failed divinity and the horrors it spawned: mushroom-headed skeletons, grotesque undead, and warped constructs that guard the secrets of the rot. Your quest is not just survival—it’s a race against spreading corruption. Along the way, you’ll encounter: Adabel, a bard whose rescue becomes central to the story. An undead blacksmith, offering cryptic aid and cursed craftsmanship. A series of three escalating boss battles, each testing your resolve and strategy. The journey spans 3–6 hours, immersing you in a claustrophobic, lore-rich environment with over 350 professionally voiced lines, an original soundtrack, and two possible endings—one of redemption, the other of ruin. Victory grants powerful rewards: enchanted swords with glowing effects, new Conjuration spells to summon undead allies, and artifacts steeped in rot’s power. Ultimately, The Rot Below is a tale of hubris, decay, and the thin line between godhood and damnation. Will you foil Namira’s designs and cleanse the underworld, or embrace the rot and reshape Skyrim in darkness?
