Story

Set in the ruined, melancholy kingdom of Drangleic, Dark Souls II follows the Bearer of the Curse, an undead wanderer afflicted by a terrible malady that slowly strips away memory and identity with each death, hollowing the sufferer into a mindless husk. Desperate to escape this fate, the Bearer is drawn across a blighted land toward Drangleic in search of a cure. Arriving in the crumbling seaside settlement of Majula, they meet the enigmatic Emerald Herald, who tells them that only by claiming powerful souls and seeking out King Vendrick, the kingdom's lost ruler, can they hope to break the curse. So begins a perilous pilgrimage through forgotten castles, poisoned ruins, and monster-haunted depths, as the Bearer battles fearsome foes and unravels the tragic history of a once-great realm consumed by the undead curse and the hunger for its throne.
